II. International Rumelia Studies Student Congress

On 1-3 November 2024, Istanbul Rumeli University Rumelia Studies Application and Research Center (RUÇAM) and Rumelia Youth Club and Balkan Youth Strategic Cooperation Association (BALGENÇ) will organize “II. International Rumelia Studies Student Congress” with the contributions of the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Culture and Tourism Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB) and Rumelia Turks Foundation. The congress will take place face-to-face on the relevant dates at Istanbul Rumeli University Haliç Application and Research Campus. There will also be the opportunity to present online papers at the congress. Turkish and international students from associate, undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs of universities will be able to present their papers in Turkish or English.

The congress calendar is as follows;

  • Congress Date: 01.11.2024-03.11.2024

Presentations can be made on the following topics related to Rumelia and the Balkans;

  • Rumelia / Balkan History
  • Türkiye and the Balkans
  • Balkan Countries
  • Muslim and Turkish Minorities in the Balkans
  • Science and Technology in the Balkans
  • Politics in the Balkans
  • Economy in the Balkans
  • Law and Democracy in the Balkans
  • Culture and Art in the Balkans
  • Youth and Sports in the Balkans
  • Environment and Cultural Heritage in the Balkans

Notes on the Congress;

  • Panelists in the congress can only apply with works related to Rumelia and the Balkans.
  • Transportation, accommodation and city transfers of the panelists from Balkan countries will be covered within the scope of the Congress organization.
  • The accommodation of the panelists who will attend the congress in Türkiye from outside Istanbul will be covered by the organization.
  • Panelists who apply to the congress in accordance with the relevant calendar are requested to shoot a video introducing themselves and their work and to include topics such as “the name and surname of the participant, country, city of residence, educational institution, hobbies, name of the study, and the topics to be covered in the study” in the video. There is no restriction on the duration of the video (maximum 5 minutes).
  • Abstracts should be sent in English or Turkish with a minimum of 150 words and a maximum of 250 words together with the full text.
  • Presentations should be minimum 5 pages and maximum 12 pages excluding references.
  • Manuscripts should be written in Microsoft Word program in Times New Roman, 12 font size and 1.5 line spacing format with 2.5 cm margins. Footnote method should be used for referencing.
  • The order of “Name, Surname” should be preferred in footnotes and the order of “Surname, Name” should be preferred in bibliography. Headings should be numbered with the first letter capitalized and in bold font.
  • Participants from Istanbul will make their presentations face-to-face.
  • Those attending the congress from outside Istanbul can optionally make their presentations face-to-face or online.
  • Participation to the congress is free of charge.
  • The presentations of the presenters will be published in the congress book and will be presented to the panelists.
  • Video abstracts and full text abstracts and contact e-mails for the congress will be sent to the e-mail address below.
